Italian Fruit Salad

It's that time of year when so many summer fruits are in season. Summer time is my favorite season in Michigan because beautiful berries and other fruits abound. My favorite local fruits are Blueberries and Cherries! I think the Michigan variety are the best. Juicy, plump and just oozing with fruity goodness! Blueberry season has officially began and soon we'll be going blueberry picking. Me and the tots can't wait to do so! If only this season will never end. :-)
When fruits abound, what do you do? Of course, we freeze as much as we can so we have enough to last us through winter time....but what about the fresh ones? Most of them end up in our tummies of course --- this is the time to load up on all the healthy anti-oxidants you can find in most fruits!

For me the easiest way to enjoy these gorgeous summer fruits is to use them in making this lovely and super-easy Italian-style Fruit Salad. Just use whatever fruits you have at hand, grab some fresh sweet oranges and 1 tangy lemon and then you're all set to make this summer-perfect Fruit Salad. The Italians would add a little Liqueur (Orange, Maraschino, Kirsch, etc.) to the mix but I leave that choice entirely to you. This is more of a family and kid-friendly version!

Ingredients

Freshly squeezed Juice from 3-4 large and sweet Oranges
Juice of 1 Lemon (1/2 if you don't want it so tangy)
Fresh Fruits of your choice: All kinds of berries, Kiwi, Melon, Watermelon, Apples, Grapes  (roughly 8-10 cups worth)

Procedure

Juice the oranges and Lemon. The amount will depend on how much fruit you want to use so increase accordingly.  Pour the juices in a large bowl (enough to accommodate all the fruits).

Wash the fruits and peel them if needed. Cut-up the fruits to bite-size chunks. As soon as you are done prepping each fruit, add them to the bowl with the citrus juice.

Toss well.  Cover and refrigerate for a few hours. Serve chilled with some Vanilla Ice Cream or Zabaglione. Fabulously yummy!
